CWO was formed 12-18-2009 by a dedicated few working together to fill in gaps in our community's basic needs services. Our organization has been active since conception, meeting once a month and accomplishing many community projects. We are non-profit charity (501C3) and we continue to grow in membership and our desire to offer services.
Our vision is to see every segment of this town going together in a common effort to reorganize and understand community potential, explore all possible resources and opportunities, and work as one toward positive change.
CommUNITY West's mission is to advocate for a connected community, to create educational opportunities in West Yellowstone, and to promote basic needs services for all residents.
To be representative of our community, we should be represented by our community. CommUNITY West Outreach will facilitate cooperation among area organizations that share Foundation principles as well as provide direct services to the community that are in line with our vision.
A large part of our efforts to date have been in the area of substance abuse. Youth and parental substance abuse is a growing problem in West Yellowstone. Our unique location offers limited access to public services but abundant access to illegal substances. Our goals have been to establish and strengthen efforts to reduce substance abuse amount our children and promote responsible, healthy life choices among our adults. We are working toward identifying the factors in our community that increase the risk of substance abuse and promote the factors in our community that minimize the risk of substance abuse.
Another large part of our efforts to date has been the continued push and efforts to help our community provide basic mental health services for both adults and youth. This often ties in directly with alcohol and substance abuse, as many people suffering from one also suffer from the other. Co-dependency is a very big problem in the state, and our community is not immune to this either. Over the years, our lack of even basic mental health services has created an even larger alcohol and drug abuse problem. We are continuing to work at providing increased mental health services for our community which include; drug and alcohol counseling, anger management counseling, marriage counseling, sexual assault counseling, suicide & depression counseling, and more. We have worked hard with, and our very thankful for, the efforts of Community Health Partners for making a lot of these services available in West Yellowstone now.
